Photo Shoot With Glamorous You

I've always dreamed of working somewhere where I can be flexible, work almost anywhere I want, be comfortable, and at my most creative all the time. Allowing me to work with my friends and help them meet success as well. Which is part of why I design. I had the opportunity to do just that with one of my own friends recently. Starting her own brand as a Makeup Artist, my high school friend Kyandra Crowder asked for some quality imagery for her profile and upcoming website glamorousyou.com which is currently under construction. I was happy to work with a friend and even more excited about helping her with her own brand. Looking back, I can say she has always had a thing for makeup. At least for as long as I have known her.

After seeing some of her work for myself, I was impressed. I mean, I don’t pretend to know two things about makeup. I am an artist however, and from that point of view, Kyandra shows knowledge of color theory, contours, and she’s not too hard on the eye shadow either. I also think she blends exceptionally well, and her unique choices in colors for things like eye shadow are attention-grabbing and complementary to the person’s entire look. As a photographer, I understand the great value in working with a makeup artist. Her work however, speaks for itself.

The photo shoot went smoothly. We were in the park during mid-day when the sun was highest sky. It was definitely a great day for shooting. Besides the heavy wind. Honestly, that made for a couple interesting images as well. I was most worried about harsh sunlight casting too many shadows in the images. Thanks to some of the cloud coverage, we didn’t mind the sun at all. Kyandra showed up with her makeup done well and in an outfit that I thought fit the scenery pretty well. After a few practice shots to get the exposure, lighting, and depth of field just right, we were on our way.

I didn't have to instruct much on posing. I know Kyandra has some experience in front of a camera and it showed after she did a couple of her go-to poses. This made my job a whole lot easier. Her natural walk, facial expressions, and poses were just what I needed to get some of her best images. I focused on everything I needed to as a photographer, while keeping my subject interested, and reconnecting with a friend at the same time. We had a lot of fun. At the end of it all. The shoot didn't feel like a shoot but more of a low-key reunion. Going to do this again soon. Check out more of the images from the shoot in the gallery!
